2020 is a Roller Coaster!

2020, what is this? Everyone predicted 2020 was going to be the year and what do we get? A pandemic. Shaking up the economy and leaving entrepreneurs to figure out what their next move is.

I happen to work at a grocery store for my main source of income while ReneeBritt Media is a side venture. While I am fortunate to have a job, this situation made me realize what stress really is. As a supervisor, there were a lot more responsibilities such as making sure the employees were following the new procedures and keeping as safe as possible as things were changing on a daily basis. Customers were panicked, buying more than they would have normally and some were confused as to why rules and policies had changed. During this time, it became evident that you can’t please everybody. You can have one set of customers ecstatic about what we are doing to keep others safe, another set of customers that don’t think it’s right and a further set of customers that disregard the pandemic as a whole. I had thought this whole time that I was adaptable but maybe I forgot how to be. I had to change with the day. It was also hard to remember everything on top of being on cash and watching the other cashiers. All in all,  I am proud of my store because to this date, there haven’t been any cases (that I know of) and  more importantly no resentment amongst us.  Also, this new “norm“ caused our store to finally hire more staff as we didn’t have many to begin with.

As for my business, I barely had any time to look at anything. I am pretty sure I lost a whole two months' worth of expenses to update my accounting with just because I was not paying attention to what I was doing specifically for ReneeBritt. During the pandemic though, while our store was getting more familiar with the new procedures and onboarding of new employees, I started to have motivation out of nowhere to restructure my business a bit and focus on what I really wanted to do. I wanted a new look to my site and make it a little bit more convenient for me (Sorry WordPress. It’s not you, it’s me). I felt like I didn’t stick to what my company offered or had things that I didn’t enjoy doing, so I specified them. I wanted to produce Prints for a while so I looked into that. There are some other services I usually offer but because of this pandemic, some have been affected or not available at this time.

During this time, small businesses and entrepreneurs have had to either take a major hit or rework their entire business model to keep their business going. Which is why it’s good to remember to shop local so that you can help support your community.

How have you been keeping sane during this time? Have you taken up a new hobby? Have you learned new things? Let me know in the comments below.

‘Til Next Time,

Ren
